Our work got us recognized - U.S. Census Bureau uplifts our work to get out the census in 2020!
Robin J. Bachman, U.S. Census Bureau: "With data collection for the 2020 Census concluded, I want to thank you – on behalf of the U.S. Census Bureau – for raising awareness of the 2020 Census and encouraging response. Partners like you are absolutely critical to our work. Your efforts made a difference in the count and in communities across the country... The 2020 Census was like no other. But in spite of significant challenges, you rose to the occasion to help us get the job done. Thank you for being one of our more than 1,000 dedicated national partners. Your partnership is important to us, and I hope we can continue our work together."
The Census plays a crucial part in shaping our country - how political districts at the federal, state, and local levels drawn, where and how federal funding is allocated, a record of who lives in your community and how the population is changing, long-term planning for cities in investing in transportation, education, or any other resource, and much more.
This is why in 2020, we focused a major portion of our work on 'Getting Out The Census,' predominantly in Texas and New York - two of the largest states with the largest Muslim populations.
Emgage Texas Census: Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 and the Trump administration, Emgage Texas held 98 events with trainings, made 3,000 calls, and sent over 5,000 text messages, reaching over 6,600 people in Texas to ‘Get Out The Census.
Nabila Mansoor, Emgage Texas ED & Census Director : "America is changing fast. But one thing that doesn't change is that we all do better when our communities are safe, strong, and healthy. The last time we had a census was 2010, and our communities have changed dramatically since then. It is imperative that the 2020 Census capture that change. A good census is the first step in making sure that the demographic picture of our country is reflective of the beauty on the ground."
Emgage New York Census: Ahsia Badi, the Emgage NY Census Director, helped create a coalition of muslim organizations to get out the Muslim count in New York, leading meetings to educate on the process of completing the Census and serving on panels to ensure Muslim New Yorkers are engaged and every ethnic and racial group is counted.
Warmest Regards,
