Dear Evidence Action Supporter,
When I became senior manager of our Deworm the World Initiative in Kenya, I was fulfilling a lifelong aspiration.
I spent nearly half my childhood in Nyalenda, one of the biggest slums in the Kenyan city of Kisumu, where my family had to contend with poor sanitation, crime, and rampant diseases like cholera and malaria.
Growing up, my aspiration and my vision was to find the best way to come out of this situation, and ensure that as I got older, I was able to have some impact on communities like my own.
Despite this difficult upbringing, I persevered, going on to become a public health research scientist, and studying diseases from malaria to HIV. However, as my career progressed, I felt the need to do more for those suffering from the same extreme poverty I had experienced - and this desire brought me to Evidence Action.
The scale at which we are deworming is incredible; in Kenya alone, we help the government to provide treatment to over six million children annually, and around the globe we support treatment of over 280 million children each year.
Knowing the impact that deworming has on nutrition, health, and education, it gives me so much joy to be able to see the impact on children’s lives. My childhood self would be proud of the work I do now.
This year, you’ll receive many compelling reasons to donate. We want to give you over 280 million reasons to choose Evidence Action.
Join us - let’s deworm the world together.
Onward together,
Chrispin Owaga
Senior Manager, Deworm the World Initiative Kenya
