This November is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Virginians, and change is starting right here in Richmond. In 2017, Democrats in Virginia came one seat away from winning the majority in the House of Delegates. We’re that close in the State Senate too, and this November, we have the opportunity to win both back. Many of the most competitive races are taking place in the Richmond area -- that means that our city is going to help decide our state’s future.
That’s why I’m throwing my support behind some hard-working, qualified candidates who want to make a difference for Virginians: Candidates like Ghazala Hashmi, an educator running for State Senate District 10.
Ghazala has spent her career teaching at community colleges, giving back to students the opportunities that her own teachers helped to give her. She understands the value of public education -- and she knows that our State Senate can do more to strengthen public schools and give teachers the resources they need to succeed.
For too long, the Virginia General Assembly has been a roadblock to progress. When the Richmond City Council and I moved to ban guns in city buildings and set a precedent of what leadership on common-sense gun safety regulations looks like, they refused to follow our lead or take the epidemic of gun violence seriously.
The residents of State Senate District 10 and Virginians all across our state deserve a progressive leader like Ghazala: someone who will stand with me to implement common-sense gun reform, preserve the natural beauty of our commonwealth, and support job creations and small businesses.
