John,
As we close out 2020, I want to take a few moments to spotlight TFN’s rich history of organizing clergy and faith leaders to speak truth to power.
Throughout its entire 25-year existence, the Texas Freedom Network has mobilized progressive voices of faith from diverse religious traditions to speak publicly and politically in support of LGBTQ equality, reproductive freedom, immigrant rights, separation of church and state, and more.
Together, we created a powerful movement to counter the hateful narratives from the right and to show the true strength of interfaith support for progressive values.
What began as the TFN Faith Network in 1995 has evolved and expanded into what is now known as Just Texas.
Today, our Just Texas program is stronger than ever. Yes, it was a challenging year, but Just Texas adjusted and moved quickly to support and uplift progressive faith voices and accomplished so much:
-
Debuted a new podcast, At the Edge of the Lege: Where Abortion, Faith & Politics Collide, adding a progressive voice to the discussions about faith and politics in Texas.
-
Recruited even more Reproductive Freedom Congregations — faith communities who support access to reproductive health care — raising its total to 25.
-
Following the murder of George Floyd, Just Texas engaged in a nationwide call for racial justice, hosting online panel discussions featuring members of the faith community and on-the-ground organizers and activists.
We couldn't have gotten to where we are today without the strong foundation built by those founding faith leaders and organizers — Rev. Dr. Larry Bethune, Rabbi Sam Stahl, Rev. Jim Rigby, and so many more — and without the encouragement and support of people like you.
John, will you help us continue to elevate progressive voices from all faith traditions in 2021?
From now until December 31 your tax-deductible donation will be doubled thanks to a Special Matching Gift Challenge from a generous TFN supporter. Your generosity today will go TWICE as far to help fuel our work, expand our movement, and create a truly Just Texas.
In 2021, TFN’s Just Texas faith initiative will be hard at work recruiting and organizing clergy, faith leaders and congregations to lift their powerful voices in support of the moral issues that are under attack in our state and nation. But we can’t do it without the help of our grassroots network.
So please, give what you can today to ensure progressive voices of faith are heard loud and clear at the Capitol next year.
Your actions are powerful. Our impact is possible only because of dedication from passionate and engaged individuals like you.
Thank you again for being a valued partner in our work.
Onward,
Val Benavidez
TFN President
P.S. We need your generosity more than ever — the future of our shared progressive values depends on it. But if you aren't in a place to give this year or already made your year-end gift, we understand that. If you'd like to receive fewer messages from us for the rest of this month, you can submit a request here.
