John,
After 9 months of partisan games, Congress has finally reached a deal on the next round of stimulus checks.
But instead of another $1,200 payment to help get people through the end of the year, Republicans have slashed that amount in half. It’s outrageous.
A one-time, direct payment of $600 can certainly help — but it’s not enough.
People need more than some relief. They need a safety net that will keep them and their loved ones from falling into poverty, going hungry, or being put out onto the street because they are unable to make rent.
Our government can do better. It must do better.
No one deserves to fall through the cracks in the richest nation in the world. Everyone deserves the opportunity to survive this pandemic and make it through this holiday season with dignity.
I will continue to fight for you until Republicans put their partisan games and corporate buddies to the side, and deliver a relief package that meets the moment it demands.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
