Friend, last time I reached out, it was for your help to stop the Ohio state legislation from passing the NRA-backed "Stand Your Ground" bill.
Well, I have bad news: It passed.
This deadly bill is now on its way to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine desk, and we cannot allow it to become law. I cannot underscore enough how dangerous this legislation is. So-called "Stand Your Ground" laws — which remove the “duty to retreat” during armed conflict — are proven to increase gun homicides. Time and time again, they have been used to justify shootings targeting Black Americans, like the tragic murder of Trayvon Martin.
We at Brady have fought for months on end to stop this deadly bill from becoming law, and this is our last-ditch effort. Please, John, can I count on you to contact Gov. DeWine right now and demand he VETO this dangerous legislation?
