Hey John,
The Animal Liberation California Convergence is finally here! From September 28th to October 1st, hundreds of activists will be converging in the SF Bay Area for a groundbreaking mass action for animals. The California Convergence will include trainings to empower and educate yourself as an activist, community events to build connections in the animal rights movement, and a coordinated action with cities around the world asking legislators to support an Animal Bill of Rights. Let’s change the world for animals. Are you ready? Register at dxe.io/alcc and we'll see you there!
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Wednesday, September 25th, 10:00am: Outreach Outside of UC Berkeley - Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) is mobilizing a social justice movement and empowering folks to take nonviolent action for animal rights. DxE will continue to grow and we need YOU to help us make that happen! We will be tabling outside of Kroeber Hall on Bancroft and College Ave. from 10am - 1pm. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Come learn (or practice your) outreach skills and grow the animal rights community at the same time!
- Saturday, September 28th, 2:00pm: March for an Animal Bill of Rights - DxE activists are facing charges and decades in prison for uncovering criminal animal cruelty in California and around the globe, so hundreds of animal rights activists are converging in Berkeley, CA to take action and demand an Animal Bill of Rights including the Right to Rescue. Join us at Sproul Plaza for a rally and then a march through the streets of Berkeley.
- Saturday, September 28th, 5:30pm: Free Movie Night - Okja - Join us for a screening of Okja, an exciting, inspiring, and emotional movie about a girl who risks everything to stop a giant multinational corporation from kidnapping and exploiting her best friend - an animal named Okja. The movie has strong animal liberation themes and messaging, too! There will be popcorn and tacos so don't miss out!
- Sunday, September 29th, 10:45am: Ezra Klein on Animal Rights: The Next Big Change in Politics - Join Ezra Klein and DxE co-founder Wayne Hsiung for a conversation on animal rights at the Animal Liberation California Convergence.Ezra Klein is the founder of Vox and is recognized as one of the top 10 most influential political journalists. Before founding Vox, he was a columnist and editor at the Washington Post, a policy analyst at MSNBC, and a contributor to Bloomberg. He’s written for the New Yorker, appeared on Face the Nation, Real Time with Bill Maher, The McLaughlin Report and the Daily Show, and has interviewed key political figures and influencers including Senator Elizabeth Warren and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Wayne Hsiung is a lawyer and former law professor who is currently facing felony charges in three different states for openly rescuing animals. This panel will be held at Anna Head Alumnae Hall (2357 Haste St. Berkeley, CA, 94704).
