Hi Friend,

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… except if you’re Santa Claus in California.

All Santa performers want for Christmas is work. But thanks to California’s job-killing law, AB5, Santa Claus will be spending Christmas in the unemployment line rather than his workshop.

Watch Patrick Turnbull’s Santa story.

It’s a sad ending to an already-tough year for workers. And it’s completely unnecessary.
Under AB5, businesses are forced to classify independent contractors, gig economy workers, and seasonal employees like Santa performers as employees. Most businesses cannot afford that, and most independent contractors value flexibility over traditional benefits.

Gig economy workers want the freedom that comes with being classified as independent contractors… and they value the ability to be their own boss.

Yet, Progressives are trying to make laws like California’s AB5 universal. President-elect Joe Biden and future VP Kamala Harris support national copycat bills, like the “PRO Act,” which would make Santa’s story in California hardly unique.

There’s nothing merry and bright about that.

Don’t let the left cancel Christmas. Speak up to save Santa—and everyone’s right to do freelance work.

Thanks,

Kelsey Bolar
