Support the Work of EPPC’s Terrific Women Scholars

The confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court was a special occasion for celebration among EPPC scholars, many of whom have known and admired Justice Barrett for years. Indeed, back when she was a law professor, Justice Barrett signed her name to an EPPC open letter from Catholic women—drafted by EPPC’s Kate O’Beirne Fellow Mary Rice Hasson—that eloquently declared:

We give witness that the Church’s teachings—on the dignity of the human person and the value of human life from conception to natural death; on the meaning of human sexuality, the significance of sexual difference and the complementarity of men and women; on openness to life and the gift of motherhood; and on marriage and family founded on the indissoluble commitment of a man and a woman—provide a sure guide to the Christian life, promote women’s flourishing, and serve to protect the poor and most vulnerable among us.

In addition to EPPC President Ed Whelan’s leading commentary on behalf of his fellow former Scalia law clerk, EPPC is especially proud of the distinctive contributions made by EPPC’s women scholars in support of Justice Barrett’s confirmation:
  • In the Wall Street JournalMary FioRito explained the lay ecclesial movement, People of Praise, that Justice Barrett and her family take part in.

  • Erika Bachiochi penned beautiful essays on Justice Barrett as a new feminist icon.

  • Alexandra DeSanctis was tireless—in the Washington PostNational Review, and social media—in knocking down attacks on Justice Barrett.

Alexandra joined EPPC earlier this year alongside Devorah Goldman as part of our new Visiting Fellows Program, which will enable EPPC to cultivate outstanding scholars and thinkers to work alongside our corps of resident scholars. Devorah’s work at EPPC focuses on religion, culture, and public policy, with an emphasis on Jewish belief and practice.

And be sure to read the work of EPPC Fellow Luma Simms, including a moving recent essay on experiences as an immigrant, a reader, and a lifelong learner.

Please donate today to help these and other EPPC scholars grow their work in 2021 and beyond!
