2020. A global pandemic causing more than 300,000 American deaths. A climate crisis with fierce hurricanes and raging wildfires. Economic insecurity and record levels of unemployment. Political volatility, “facts” that are fiction and “truth” that is snake oil. A national reckoning with systemic racism and racialized police violence that requires us not only to act as an oppositional force, but to push harder and faster. Goodbye to a turbulent, bristly, arduous and grueling year.

And yet. There remains hope and courage among those seeking justice transformation. The capacity to heal individuals, families, communities and our democracy is activated by Art for Justice. Working together, artists, policy advocates and donors are more than the sum of their parts. They’re an alchemic force to end mass incarceration. And for that, we are truly glad.
“I’m grateful for Aggie…for her drive and impatience with the pace of change. She inspires and pushes us to do more.”

Helena Huang, Project Director, Art for Justice Fund
“I'm thankful to the artist partners who relentlessly work to reimagine and recreate the narratives around justice impacted people. They help us see what real justice looks like.”
–––
Mirabel Fall, Program Assistant, Ford Foundation
“All my gratitude and respect for our grantee partners who keep on fighting the good fight and holding on to hope during this hard year. Hope we can all rest and recharge as the year ends and get ready for what’s next.”
–––
Amy Holmes, Director, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors
“I’m inspired by the Art for Justice authors who are writing truth to power – the memory keepers, storytellers and truthtellers. I’m grateful that their work will motivate and instruct the next generation of activists and artists.”
–––
Aketa Marie Williams, Vice President, Spitfire Communications
“In a year that brought historic tragedy on nearly a daily basis, the Art for Justice community remained a beacon of empathy and resilience. I am fortunate for the light this community provides in our darkest times.”
–––
Terrence Bogans, Program Officer, Art for Justice Fund
“I am grateful that I continue to learn so much from this beloved community every day. Justice is love and love is Art for Justice.”
–––
LeAnne Alexander, Donor Services, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors
“I’m awed by the generosity of those who support the Fund. From Aggie’s founding gift to cash donations to the magnificent art that’s been contributed to help end mass incarceration. The work of grantee partners is the engine -- it propels everyone to extend their best selves.”
