As Attorney General, my job is to protect Washingtonians from powerful interests when they don’t play by the rules.

That includes Facebook — a pervasive social media platform worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

Facebook implemented a strategy to “buy or bury'' its competitors in pursuit of an illegal monopoly. Facebook’s dominance crippled competition, stifled innovation, and resulted in fewer privacy protections for Washingtonians.

In fact, Facebook misled regulators about its privacy policy in order to earn their permission to buy competitors like Instagram and WhatsApp. After the federal government approved those deals, Facebook rolled back privacy protections in order to sell more ads and increase its profits.

In response, I partnered with a bipartisan group of 48 Attorneys General in filing a lawsuit against the powerful tech giant to stop their unlawful actions.

While we wait for a judge to rule, I thought I’d ask what you think. Do you believe that my office should stand up to corporate monopolies like Facebook? [[link removed]]

Our antitrust laws are clear: No single company should hold so much power. When corporations no longer need to compete and innovate, consumers suffer.

This isn’t the first time I’ve held Facebook accountable for their actions. We led the nationwide effort to prohibit discriminatory advertising practices and stopped Facebook from violating statewide political advertising and campaign laws.

We will prevail again.

I’d like to know what you think. Will you share your thoughts? [[link removed]]
