The solution to solve the climate crisis is right in front of us. But so is the opposition. Oil and gas executives, along with climate skeptics, are working as hard as they can and spending as much money as they can to keep the status quo.
Fortunately we have a roadmap. In Congress, I have been working with the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis to craft a bold, ambitious Climate Action Plan that will create good-paying jobs, reduce emissions, and combat the climate crisis.
Our plan is achievable, but it's going to take a lot of work, from within government and from our allies in communities across Oregon and America, to get it across the finish line.
The goal is to transition to a 100% clean energy economy by 2050. We need to act now to reach this goal.
And that's just the start. When we build the infrastructure we need to address the climate crisis, we'll also be investing in millions of good-paying, high-quality jobs that will sustain working families.
What's at stake? Clean air and clean water for future generations. Affordable clean energy. A healthy ocean for our coastal communities. Equitable access to public transportation in our cities and suburbs. Protecting our most treasured public lands and wild places. Repairing the legacy of environmental racism that has burdened too many low-income communities and communities of color.
Stay tuned. I hope that the start of 2021 brings new and significant developments, especially with a new President and Vice President who believe in science taking charge in the White House.
I'll be doing my part in Congress, and I know that we'll be looking to our communities across Oregon and the country for ideas and energy.
