USA TODAY: "Corporations exploit workers even amid COVID. They don't deserve to run the economy" - Sherrod Brown

Back in June, Sherrod wrote an open letter calling on big corporations to back their words up with actions, and deliver for the workers who make their companies' profits possible and who are putting their lives on the line to keep our country going during a pandemic.

Since then, corporate leaders haven't listened. Instead, corporate profits are up while hazard pay has disappeared.

Sherrod followed up with an op-ed in USA Today laying out the steps we need to take to step up for workers where corporations have failed them.

"If even a global pandemic, where America's workers have been on the front lines, will not get corporations to rethink their exploitative business model, it's time to stop letting them run the economy. They had their chance. They failed. If corporate America won't deliver for its workers, then government and unions must."

President-elect Joe Biden won a commanding victory by appealing to workers, who are the backbone of our country. Now, it's time to deliver for them by:

Raising the minimum wage
Protecting workers on the job
Passing paid family leave
Protecting gig economy and contract workers
Empowering workers with the right to organize

The pandemic has laid bare how our economy doesn't deliver results for the people who make it work. Something has to change. It's time to make our economy work for everyone -- not just Wall Street.
