We will remember where we were when we first heard about this new virus “COVID- 19” We will remember when we first heard about the killing of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbry, and George Floyd. We will remember when we saw thousands of people flooding the streets as we all called for human rights. We will remember thousands North Carolinians who demanded expanded voting opportunities during the pandemic and voted in the landmark 2020 election. We remember the tireless efforts of census workers to ensure that each and every North Carolinian was counted. We remember the frontline and essential workers who have perserved throughout this pandemic. We remember the thousands of North Carolinians who struggled to ensure that prescription drugs were affordable. We remember those folks who faced possible eviction and yet stood firm. We remember senior citizens and others who have demanded Medicaid expansion in the state. We remember DACA students and parents who won a resounding victory in 2020. We remember all these things and because we remember we also believe that 2021 can be successful. We believe that 2021 can be a year filled with victories, progress, and even celebration. The end of this year is one in which we are celebrating our collective resilience and commitment to racial, gender economic equity.
