Fight for people like Amelia and her father
==========================
Triple your gift now
Friend,
You often see numbers and statistics. But behind them are real people, they could be neighbors or colleagues or family members or even you.
Amelia Fowler is one of them. Her father passed away from a drug overdose last year. She recently shared: “My dad was my biggest cheerleader. He was always behind me one thousand percent but he struggled with drug addiction. He wanted to quit using but we couldn’t find him treatment and support.”
That’s why Amelia became a strong advocate for Oregon’s recently passed initiative to decriminalize all drugs and shift to a health-based approach. It puts the focus where it belongs -- on people and health -- and away from arresting, prosecuting, and incarcerating people who use drugs.
“Putting people in jail ruins families when treatment can help families.”
The groundbreaking initiative will save lives, save money, and create a better way forward. That’s why we can’t stop in Oregon. Like early marijuana reform victories, we expect this will create extraordinary momentum for other powerful reforms that prioritize people and public health over criminalization.
But that depends on you. You can help shift the focus away from criminalization that disproportionately targets people of color to health focused policies that save lives.
