Every person gets a vote and every vote counts equally. This is the most fundamental principle of our democracy.

Any attempt to undermine this principle -- whether by disenfranchising American citizens or attempting to influence the outcome of our elections -- is a direct attack against our democracy.

There is no doubt that Russia sought to interfere in our 2016 election.

I want to hear your thoughts on this issue. Can you fill out my team's short survey on election security?

Right here in Illinois, Russian hackers infiltrated our state board of elections network. It is imperative that we be proactive in securing our elections from attacks like this in the future.

The SAFE Act would help to secure our elections by requiring that election systems are manufactured in the United States, use voter-verified paper ballots, and are never connected to the internet. It would also provide critical funding for states to enhance their election security before the 2020 elections.

Do you support measures like the SAFE Act? If you could take a moment to fill out our election security survey, I'd appreciate it.

This is not a partisan issue -- We all have a stake in it. It's time we come together on both sides of the aisle to secure our elections and protect the voice of the American people.

Thank you,

Sean
