Last night, after months of gridlock, Democratic and Republican leadership reached a deal on passing additional pandemic relief.

The legislation, which is expected to pass both chambers of Congress today, will provide $600 stimulus checks, additional unemployment benefits and other forms of assistance.

After nine months of struggling, with many folks losing their jobs, struggling to put food on the table and pay their bills, it’s disgraceful that Republicans were unwilling to give more under the guise of ‘fiscal responsibility’ — yet they had no problem raising the national debt by $2 trillion to give tax cuts to the wealthiest one percent in their GOP tax scam. Talk about hypocrisy.

Though this round of pandemic relief is nowhere near what the American people deserve, it’s at the very least a step in the right direction.

Know that Democrats are fighting for more direct payments, assistance for small businesses, rent relief, better internet connectivity for students and workers at home and so much more. And with President-elect Joe Biden in the White House and the potential for us to take back the Senate majority on January 5th through the Georgia runoff elections, I am confident we will get it done for the people in 2021.
