The Death Penalty's Costs Are Making Us Less Safe

There are endless problems with the death penalty. Americans are wrongfully convicted frequently, it fails to deter crime, and it's overrun with socioeconomic and racial bias. And don't believe the falsehood that capital punishment saves taxpayer dollars. Far from it.

In reality, we spend up to 10 times more for the death penalty than we do on the next most expensive sentence, which is life in prison without parole. And many of those costs are stacked up front because the trial itself is so much more expensive.

Please make a year end donation to Conservatives Concerned so that we can end this morally corrupt AND wasteful policy:

This year your gift will go further than ever before. If you're giving to Conservatives Concerned for the first time, a generous supporter will match your gift dollar for dollar. Not a first time donor? The same foundation will match the portion of your gifts over and above your previous donation. Your gift will help rally Conservatives at the state and national level to stop executions, repeal death penalty laws, and educate the public about a system that makes mistakes, fails to keep us safe, and wastes millions of dollars

Cost is clearly not the main reason to oppose the death penalty. But as Conservatives we should care about the government squandering our resources, especially when those same tax dollars could be used for things that actually do improve public safety.

Death penalty supporters will often say the death penalty is expensive because it takes too long to carry it out. Wrong again. Time on death row does not explain away the costs. That's because 70% of the death penalty's costs come from the trial alone. In reality, the only death penalty policy that will save taxpayer dollars is to end it.

Together, we can debunk the myth of the death penalty as a tax dollar-saving policy.

Please be as generous as you can and join us in ending the death penalty.

PS - This year a supporter will match all new gifts dollar for dollar. Please give today:
