The Heritage Foundation had the honor of hosting Vice President Mike Pence last week. You won’t want to miss his remarks on trade, Iran, and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Catch the highlights below. Pence will return to Heritage for our annual President’s Club Meeting next month—learn more in the Upcoming Events section! This week, Heritage foreign policy expert James Carafano weighed in on how the Trump administration should respond to Iran’s attack on a Saudi oil plant. Read on for his recommendations. Heritage also began our annual Preserve the Constitution series with an event that examined the Kavanaugh confirmation—a low point in the history of judicial confirmations. Find out more about this and future events below. This is your conservative agenda.
Vice President Pence Delivers Newsmaking Speech at Heritage
“I have to be honest with you, Heritage Foundation will always feel like home,” Vice President Mike Pence told the standing-room-only crowd in Heritage’s Allison Auditorium. In his Constitution Day address <[link removed]>, Pence discussed the path forward for the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, known as USMCA. But even before he touched on trade, Pence made news for his hard-hitting comments about Iran and support for Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Pence will speak to Heritage again next month at the 2019 President’s Club Meeting. Attendance at this event is by invitation only. What Trump Can Do About Iran’s Saudi Attack
President Trump ordered the Treasury Department to slap additional sanctions on Iran in response to a crippling attack on a major Saudi oil processing plant. “Tehran is challenging Trump,” writes James Carafano, vice president of Heritage’s Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy and E.W. Richardson fellow. “If the president is going to rein in the regime’s violent, destabilizing behavior and end its nuclear weapons ambitions once and for all, he needs to step up the game.” Here are three things—short of war—that Trump can do to tame Tehran <[link removed]>.
How the Left Is Attempting to Intimidate Kavanaugh  Heritage kicked off its annual Preserve the Constitution event series with a closer look at the judiciary. Legal experts discussed the current landscape for judicial confirmations and concluded that it had reached an all-time low. John Yoo, a former deputy assistant U.S. attorney general and now a law professor at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, said the latest attack on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is an example of how far the left will go to intimidate justices and attempt to influence the court. “Kavanaugh just joined the bench,” Yoo said. “I don’t think the Democrats seriously think they’re going to impeach him, but they think they might be able to affect him and they think they can affect the next people who are going to be confirmed for future vacancies at the Supreme Court.” Read more from The Daily Signal about the event <[link removed]> and see the upcoming events in the
