The timber interests that owned the pond and surrounding forest had allowed recreational access to the area. But with the region’s timber economy in flux and land ownership shifting from local companies to big corporations, visitors began to find locked gates and “No Trespassing” signs. Thanks to friends like you, The Trust for Public Land rallied community, state, federal, and corporate partners to keep this natural wonder open to all. In September 2020, we permanently protected over 2,600 acres of land and expanded access to paddling, fishing, hiking, and camping!
