Good afternoon friend,
Whilst it's important we legalise assisted dying, there are some things you can do now to ensure you get what you want at the end of life.
By completing an Advance Decision form (also known as a living will) you can record any treatments that you do not want to be given in certain situations, like if you had advanced dementia, a head injury or a stroke.
It enables you to remain at the heart of these choices, giving you peace of mind.
You may not know, but we have a sister charity called Compassion in Dying who can help you make one.
If you need some help thinking through what you might want at the end of life, they will be able to help.
They have a free phone line you can call - 0800 999 2434. They are available Monday - Friday (9am - 5pm).
Just to say though, they won't be able to discuss anything about assisted dying - that is what we (Dignity in Dying) is here for.
P.S. Compassion in Dying also has lots of free practical information you can view on its website, such as their latest publication - Planning Ahead: My treatment and care.
