John, my heart is filled with overwhelming gratitude.
Because of the support of over 16,000 donors in this community, we’re back on track to reach our critical year-end goal. As long as we keep this momentum through the final stretch of the year, we’ll be able to expand our gun violence prevention programs and advocacy efforts to protect more children in 2021.
Last week marked eight years since my beautiful butterfly Dylan was murdered, and it never gets easier. I’ll never stop missing him. But I’m so grateful to have the support of this community – especially during such a difficult year.
I know that with everything going on in the world, focusing on the heartbreak of gun violence can take an emotional toll. But as we see a surge in depression, anxiety and isolation among students during this pandemic, we also see how this year’s difficulties have made our work as important as ever.
Thanks to supporters like you, we've developed the tools to prevent violence before it claims more precious lives. I wrote an op-ed for USA Today about the urgency of this lifesaving work in the face of the pandemic, and I’d be so grateful if you’d take a moment to read it:
Thank you for all that you do to help me honor Dylan. Together, we're building his legacy – a safer world for all children.
With love,
Nicole Hockley (Dylan's mom)
