Hi John,

We haven’t seen a new federal gun safety bill become law in over a quarter century.

Last year, a gun responsibility majority in the House of Representatives passed legislation to expand background checks and close the Charleston loophole, marking the first significant action on gun safety in decades. But those proposals were dead on arrival in the Senate thanks to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s loyalty to the gun lobby.

If we want to see meaningful federal action to prevent gun violence, we need a Senate that is willing to act to address this public health crisis. Right now, all eyes are on Georgia, where two run-off races will determine control of the Senate. If both Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff win their races on January 5th, we will finally have a gun safety majority in the Senate.
