For over a decade, the federal government has failed low-wage workers―with the federal minimum wage stuck at $7.25 an hour. And for 40 years, wages have been flat for 90% of the U.S. workforce as more and more income goes to the top 1%.¹

One way to raise the wages of nearly 40 million working people would be to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.²

And at a time when low-wage workers―particularly women and people of color―have been hit the hardest by the pandemic recession, we urgently need to boost wages for working people.

When people earn more, they become less dependent on federal aid, including housing and food assistance. And, they spend more in their local economies, which not only helps small businesses, but the increased tax revenue allows states and local communities to invest more in education and other critical services.

For the last several decades, we’ve seen an increase in policies that put corporate interests ahead of workers’ rights and wages―ignoring the reality that we all benefit when the most vulnerable among us benefit.

It used to be that through a minimum wage job, workers could support themselves and their families. But, today, the federal minimum wage is a poverty wage, forcing low-wage workers to work longer hours, taking them away from their children and families.
