Hi friend,

There’s two Senate runoffs on January 5, but the GOP has honed in on who they think is the easiest target to rouse their base: Rev. Raphael Warnock, the only person of color on the ballot.

As The New York Times writes: “Spotlighting a Black candidate and linking him to the state’s most prominent African-American Democrat, Stacey Abrams, amounts to a strategy to motivate turnout among white conservatives, especially those who harbor racist views and are uneasy about Black leadership. Mr. Warnock would be the first Black Democratic senator from the South.”

Republicans are scared of how much Black activists have changed Georgia’s political landscape -- which is why we’ll see Kelly Loeffler and the GOP stoking white supremacy to drive conservative turnout at the Georgia polls, especially among those who stayed on the sidelines during the presidential election.

But by portraying Warnock as a radical leftist, the Times notes that moderates may be coming out of the woodwork to support the GOP, too: “What ultimately may drive the Loeffler-Warnock race, and perhaps both of the runoffs, is whether Republicans’ attacks remind Georgia voters of why they’ve demonstrated a longstanding preference for Republican senators, allowing them to put aside their distaste for Mr. Trump’s conspiracy-mongering.”

This MUST serve as a wake-up call: If we let the GOP spend millions of dollars filling Georgians’ airwaves with their egregiously racist lies, we will lose this election, and Mitch McConnell will retain his control of the Senate.
