Tell Congress:
“Raise the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour in the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration.”

John,
Our Social Security system is built on a solid foundation, but when our country’s economics get out of whack, it becomes unsteady. When wages are stagnant for a generation, retirement security suffers.
Research shows that over the last 40 years, the wages of working and low-income people have remained flat while nearly all new wealth is going to the richest 1% who do not pay nearly their fair share into Social Security.1
One major boost that would invest in working people and Social Security’s future is a $15 minimum wage, which would raise the wages of nearly 40 million low-income people.2
Join Social Security Works and our national allies in calling on Congress to pass a $15 minimum wage in the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration, which would raise the wages of millions of people while strengthening Social Security. Sign the petition today >>>
For generations following the Great Depression, there was an understanding that when working people did well, the country did well. But, starting in about 1979, the balance of worker-employer power began to shift.
Over that time, Big Business interests have attacked unions and workers’ rights. And with the disastrous Citizens United U.S. Supreme Court decision, Wall Street interests have gained outsized political power, resulting in Congress doing the will of corporations, millionaires and billionaires, not working people.
It’s time for a fundamental rebalancing of workers’ rights. And that starts with raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. Sign the petition calling on Congress to pass a $15 minimum wage in the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration.
Together, we’re fighting for bold progressive change in 2021 that puts more money in the pockets of working people and those who rely on Social Security.
Thank you,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
