Dear Friend,
This is an age of protest. From the climate strike on Friday, back to the 2003 Iraq war protests, and the anti-globalisation protests before that, millions of people around the globe have repeatedly demonstrated their opposition to austerity, war, and to the destruction of the environment.
But for protest to be effective it has to be able to remove those in power. That’s why the People’s Assembly demonstration outside the Tory party conference <[link removed]> this coming Sunday is so important.
The Tory party in government is the immediate source of all our problems.
It is from here that the climate deniers gain their strength. It is this government, now shamefacedly trying to pretend that it is ending austerity while simultaneously pushing through measures that rip apart working-class communities. It is by this government that the NHS is being privatised. It is from the mouth of Boris Johnson that racist remarks spew forth resulting in racist attacks on the streets.
If the Tories remain in power the country will ratchet to the far right. We have a chance to stop that and the protest on the 29th September can play an important role in that process.
Johnson has already proved to be an incompetent and unpopular prime minister. Not surprising since he hasn’t been elected to that post in a general election.
Everywhere he goes he meets opposition, every time he speaks in public he gets heckled and shouted down.
But what is necessary now is mass, unstoppable resistance.
This government has no mandate and no majority in the commons. It is only survived by sending MPs away from Westminster so that they cannot hold government to account.
But we can.
From every corner of the country we must meet in Manchester and demonstrate before the world’s press that this is a government that has to go. It’s austerity policy has to end. The climate deniers have to be forced out of office. The warmongers defeated.
Join us in Manchester, next Sunday 29th September. <[link removed]>
The National Demonstration on Sunday 29 will be the centre piece of a 4 day "Shut Down The Tories" Festival. Please click here for programme of events from Saturday 28 Sept - Tuesday 1 Oct. <[link removed]>
Can you help?
ThePeople'sAssemblyis a grassroots organisation which is supported by many trade unions, campaigns and local networks, as well as many individuals. But we need your help. It costs money to organise events, meetings, demonstrations and campaigns. Unlike those who are enforcing austerity, we do not have wealthy businessmen backers. We rely on donations from our supporters. Over the past few months we have organised or supported campaigns over the NHS, closure of libraries, housing and in support of trade union rights. We held a demonstration in early January calling for a general election.
We need to step up our campaigning and help give a voice to those trying to stop library closures, end Universal Credit, defend the NHS and provide a better future for our children.
Please consider supporting ThePeople'sAssemblywith a one off <[link removed]>ormonthly donation. <[link removed]>
Thank you!!
