We are witnessing history being made in America, and we have a clear choice: We can stand back and let Republicans obstruct President-elect Biden’s agenda just like they did with President Obama, or we can step up now and stop them.
Mitch McConnell has helped Donald Trump take over our country’s judiciary. Trump got three Supreme Court justices in four years as president -- Barack Obama barely got two justices in 8 years. When you consider the 200 federal judges -- all serving life terms -- that the Republicans have installed since 2016, it can be easy to get dejected about the future of our country.
But there’s hope to be found in the American people. Joe Biden has won the presidency. Democrats have kept the House, and we have a chance at retaking the Senate, which would give us a blue trifecta and enable us to make progress on the pandemic, the environment, health care, and much more.
The bad news is that Republicans know exactly how important these special elections are. That’s why they’re focusing all their attention on them. They know if they keep control of the Senate, they can stop President-elect Biden from enacting any policies. Then, after McConnell has obstructed everything Biden has tried to accomplish, the GOP will campaign against him as a “failed” president in 2024.
We are fighting every day to stop the GOP from succeeding. We are arming our Democratic candidates with the campaign resources they need to win by landslides -- and we’re sticking up for progressive policies, the right to vote, and the voices of our scientists and experts. But the Georgia runoffs are just around the corner, and the unexpected challenges of the 2020 campaign have exhausted our reserves. We can’t do our best work if we don’t hit our fundraising goals -- and right now, we’re falling very short.
You’re the best hope we have. There’s no one more engaged, more informed, more upset about the GOP’s transgressions, or more inspired about the good Democrats can accomplish in 2021.
If people like you don’t give, no one will. We’re incredibly grateful for everything you’ve done for progressive candidates up and down the ballot this election cycle already. But this is crunch time -- and we need to do more.
