John,
As 2020 draws to an end, we wanted to highlight some of Abigail’s legislative accomplishments in Congress. One of her main priorities has been expanding access to reliable, high-speed internet access. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for broadband internet across the country has come into stark relief, especially as schools across the nation have moved to virtual or hybrid learning.
Abigail has made it a priority to expand internet infrastructure in Central Virginia’s rural communities and in underserved areas across the country.
Here are a few of the ways Abigail has helped improve broadband internet access:
-
Successfully fought to protect millions of dollars for broadband internet infrastructure for Central Virginia through the USDA’s ReConnect Program
-
Announced a $28 million broadband project for Central Virginia counties
-
Introduced an amendment passed as part of the Save the Internet Act that would fix the FCC’s outdated and inaccurate broadband maps
-
Hosted a rural broadband summit in Louisa County to bring the concerns of our rural neighbors directly to USDA and NTIA
-
Pushed the FCC to expand wifi hotspots in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
Thanks to all of your support, Abigail is heading back to Congress, where she will continue to be a leader in the fight to expand broadband internet infrastructure and bring greater opportunity to rural communities.
We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
