Friend,
It was a year in which we were all forced to dig deep—and the pain and
struggle of being "distant," when togetherness was so needed, made it
all the more difficult.
Amid so much death and loss, we learned much about ourselves as a
society—some of it cruel and shortsighted and troubling. But we also
witnessed beautiful acts of sacrifice, grace, and solidarity.
The mission of Common Dreams is the same today as it was at its
inception: To inform. To inspire. To ignite change for the common good.
We believe in this mission, and our dedicated newsroom staff work
tirelessly, day in and day out, to fulfill it. As managing editor, I
want to thank each one of them for all that they give: their talents,
their passions, their intelligence, and their good humor and
perseverance as they all juggled life and work under new and challenging
circumstances.
I also want to thank all of our dedicated readers and donors—without
you, this work simply wouldn't be possible. In my mind, you are the
lifeblood of what Common Dreams was meant to be and what it has become.
On behalf of Common Dreams, I hope we served you well this year. And if
you can, I also hope that you join with us again to keep nonprofit
journalism alive in 2021 by helping Common Dreams reach its year-end
fundraising goal.

The year ahead is going to be all hands on deck as we continue our
coverage of the climate emergency, the pandemic, and the entrenched
powers that remain the key obstacle for all those who know in their
hearts that a much better world is not only possible, but within our
grasp.
