Folks,

Earlier this week, electors cast our state's five votes for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. On the same day, Donald Trump filed a lawsuit alleging the election was marred by the use of absentee ballot drop boxes.

Let me be clear -- this lawsuit is another baseless attempt by Trump to undercut and erase your legal votes.

Absentee ballot drop boxes are legal under New Mexico law. State law requires them to be secured and under video surveillance, which they were. New Mexico was one of 40 states to use drop boxes this year as a safe and easy alternative to in-person voting.

There is no evidence that election fraud was committed in New Mexico, or on a widespread scale anywhere in the country. The Trump campaign's desperate attempts to invalidate legal votes are an affront to democracy and to the will of the voters.

Worse yet, Steve Pearce and the Republican Party of New Mexico assisted in filing the lawsuit. I am disappointed to see leaders in our state continuing to put political stunts and loyalty above ensuring that the voices of New Mexico voters are heard.

I have no doubt that this baseless lawsuit will be quickly dismissed, but the seed of doubt that Trump has planted about the fairness of our elections will be much more difficult to address. Our nation is at a crossroads, and Donald Trump would happily keep us divided to maintain his own power.

We've got a lot of work to do to heal from the damage of the past four years. Foremost among them is restoring faith in our institutions, our government, and each other. It's a big job, but one I know we can tackle together.
