Dear John:

I have an exciting update to share about our campaign. But first, I have to say: This week showed, in the clearest possible terms, that we need new leadership at every level of government to help get our communities through this difficult time.

Between the constantly-changing regulations for struggling restaurants, the Mayor’s effort to downplay the police abuse that New Yorkers experienced last summer, and the multimillionaire Republican senators who are cynically blocking the survival checks that we desperately need -- it is so clear that they are out of touch with what our communities are experiencing right now.

In just a few months, we will choose new leaders for our city. I’m ready to put people first and lead an equitable recovery as your next NYC Comptroller -- in partnership with the communities closest to the crisis and closest to the solutions. [[link removed]]

I’m excited to share that this week, three of the most incredible grassroots organizations building political power by and for low-income communities of color endorsed our campaign: Make the Road Action, New York Communities for Change (NYCC), and VOCAL-NY Action Fund!

They’ve joined our team ahead of the critical moment of our campaign thus far: The first public reporting deadline of 2021.

Analysts, reporters, and our opponents will all be watching our numbers closely to see if this movement has what it takes to bring bold, progressive values to citywide office.

That’s why we’ve set the grassroots goal of raising $10,000 by January 11 -- without a dime from corporate interests, for-profit developers, or police unions. If you’re able, please chip in $10 or any amount before the deadline, and your gift will be matched 8-to-1 by public financing →

Make the Road Action, NYCC, and VOCAL-NY Action Fund are three of the most amazing grassroots organizations fighting for justice anywhere.

I have learned so much from their leaders over the years of organizing together -- from marching in the streets for Black lives to winning a $15 minimum wage and so many other campaigns to bring rights and dignity to communities across NYC. Their members are fighting hard right now to raise progressive revenue at the state level, to support excluded immigrant workers, and keep people in their homes.

We have people-power on our side, but there’s no doubt that this will be a tough, expensive race. Our opponents are already raising big money from out-of-state donors and corporate interests -- with more on the way.

But I know that if we have the resources to take our message to every NYC voter and bring people together around our shared progressive values and vision for the city, we can win big and deliver the leadership we need!

So please, if you’re able, chip in toward our $10,000 grassroots goal today! Every $1 you give will be matched by $8 in public financing -- make an impact on this critical race →
