Folks,

This is just the first step:

NBC: House passes historic bill to decriminalize cannabis

I was proud to join my House colleagues to pass the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act, which would take long overdue action to lift the ban on cannabis and create a pathway to expunge federal marijuana convictions.

The War on Drugs and its legacy of mass incarceration has disproportionately harmed communities of color and the poor. A 2020 ACLU report found that Black Americans are 3.64 times more likely than white Americans to be arrested for marijuana possession despite similar use rates.

The MORE Act would not only decriminalize cannabis, but would also direct tax revenue from marijuana sales to provide job training, legal aid, and substance abuse treatment for those impacted by our failed punitive marijuana policies.

The time for justice is now -- but it will take major grassroots support to get this bill signed into law. I'm mobilizing 5,000 supporters to sign on and demand the Senate bring the MORE Act up for a vote >>

We must all take action to drive our country forward in the fight for equality.

We must lead with love,
