Madison Liberty update: Welcome back to our Sparkies, Constitution Day, MLI's one-year anniversary, birth certificate rule hearing, and much MORE!

** One Year of Promoting the Cause of Liberty!
------------------------------------------------------------
This past week at Madison Liberty was a very special week for us! Many of our Sparkies returned for the fall semester (#Spark) at BYU-Idaho here in Rexburg. We celebrated the 232nd anniversary of the U.S. Constitution (#Imcomparable) and shared pocket constitutions (#Constitution Day) with the community as well as students in Arco (#Brushfires) . Moreover, this past Tuesday (09.17.19) was the one-year anniversary since we opened our doors here in Idaho!

In celebration of our one-year anniversary, below are a few of our numbers you might find interesting.

“The power under the constitution will always be in the people. It is intrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and, whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can and undoubtedly will be recalled."
- George Washington

Government records are not an ever-shifting game of Mad Libs!

The Birth Certificate Rule Hearings started last week with hearings in Lewiston ([link removed]) and Coeur d'Alene ([link removed]) . These hearings were scheduled by the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare (IDHW) to address a rule change that allows Idahoans to change the gender listed on their state-issued birth certificate. This rule flies in the face of science, making the “Sex” line on Idaho birth certificates, which currently reads “Male” or “Female,” replaceable with any “gender” the person subjectively chooses.

In May 2018, the IDHW published a temporary rule to allow Idahoans to change the gender listed on their birth certificate.

This rule was supposed to have legislative oversight during the 2019 session. However, both chairmen of the legislative Health and Welfare committees locked the rule in their drawers - denying their fellow legislators any review or debate of the rule. And, unfortunately here in Idaho, without legislative intervention, rules such as this effectively become law.
Then, on July 2019, the IDHW proposed new changes to the rule for children under the age of 18 who want to change their gender. These changes opened the rule to public comment through five scheduled rule hearings ([link removed]) in Boise, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Falls, Lewiston, and Twin Falls. The hearings were scheduled in response to the Madison Liberty Institute's submission of 22 petitions to the IDHW. Unfortunately, the IDHW chose to hold public hearings in only four of the 22 counties for which petitions were submitted ([link removed]) .
So, if you are anywhere near Boise, Twin Falls, or Idaho Falls, be sure to mark your calendars and remember, “Decisions Are Made by Those Who Show Up.”
* Boise: ([link removed]) Monday, September 23, 2019
* Twin Falls: ([link removed]) Tuesday, September 24, 2019
* Idaho Falls: ([link removed]) Wednesday, September 25, 2019

However, in case you are unable to make it to the Birth Certificate Rule Hearings, there is now a backup option for you. Due to scheduling of only five (5) public hearings to address the Birth Certificate Gender Change rule, the IDHW is now attempting to accommodate concerned citizens by setting up a toll-free number with the ability for 300(+) callers to listen-in on the hearings. (The callers will all be muted and the ability to make comments over the line may not be available or very limited.)

The toll-free number is 1-877-820-7831, Participant Code 164191#.

Lastly, as a reminder, written comments will be accepted until September 25, 2019. Written testimony may be sent via email to [email protected] or mailed to IDHW Rules Unit, 450 W. State St., 10th Floor Boise, ID 83720-0036. So, if you can't show up in-person, another way of showing up is to dial-in or submit written comments.

Fortunately, these hearing are an opportunity for you to have a voice in the lawmaking process here in Idaho. We strongly encourage YOU to take this opportunity to "show up!"

** Happy Constitution Day!
------------------------------------------------------------
232 years ago on September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution ([link removed]) was signed! As the last delegates were signing the document, Benjamin Franklin pointed toward the sun on the back of the convention president's chair and said "I have often ... in the course of the session ... looked at that sun behind the President without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting. But now at length, I have the happiness to know it is a rising and not a setting sun."

We believe that Benjamin Fraklin couldn't have been more correct. This signing of the U.S. Constitution was the rise of something extraordinary, unlike anything the world had seen before. This document has been a blessing to not only America but the whole human race!

To celebrate Constitution Day, the Madison Liberty Institute shared hundreds of pocket constitutions with the community and encouraged them to read it and learn it. Stop by ([link removed]) today to receive your FREE copy of the U.S. or Idaho Constitution ([link removed]) !

** Our Incomparable Constitution
------------------------------------------------------------
Since the constitution was signed 232 years ago, a lot has changed. We have only to see the public dialog in the media and in the current political debates to see how far we have slipped from the principles of the Constitution as intended by its framers. Socialism is openly admired and advocated by some of our current political leaders, and its precepts have been creeping into our laws at an ever-increasing rate. So what can be done?

Dr. Jud Miller shares 3 ways that we can be involved and preserve the U.S. Constitution. Read more HERE ([link removed]) .

** Spark Freedom Update: Welcome Back Sparkies!
------------------------------------------------------------
Once again, we are excited to welcome back our "Sparkies" and have students back at our Spark Freedom ([link removed]) Center with the start of BYU- Idaho's fall semester!

Our student group leaders have been meeting throughout the summer and have BIG plans for the next few months. To kick the semester off, we hosted two informational booths and a "Drowning-in-Debt" dunk-tank at Experience Rexburg this past Saturday (09.21.2019) and have an opening social planned for this coming Tuesday (09.24.19) at 6:30 PM at Spark Freedom.

** BrushFires Update: Arco
------------------------------------------------------------
On Constitution Day, members of our BrushFires ([link removed]) traveled to Arco to visit with and teach youth about the U.S. Constitution. They talked to the students about the three branches of government and the differences between tyranny, anarchy, and liberty!

** Liberty Resource: The Making of America
------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ever wanted to study the Constitution of the United States in-depth from the viewpoints of our Founding Fathers? The Making of America by W. Cleon Skousen may be just the resource you need. It is said to be one of the most thorough compilations of quotes by those who drafted the U.S. Constitution ([link removed]) . The author breaks down and addresses the Constitution clause by clause -- providing resources along the way on the Founders' intent and helping the reader understand their viewpoint. | Resource Link ([link removed])
