Hi John,
You probably haven't seen my name in your inbox before. I lead 350.org's regional team in Africa.
I'm reaching out to you today to first say thank you. Since I started at 350.org, I have seen our movement blossom in every corner of the world, and I am continuously inspired by the campaigns my teammates are leading, from the Pacific to Latin America to Europe.
John, this has been a big year for us here on the Africa team, so I wanted to share a few highlights from one of our biggest campaigns:
The truth is that campaign victories like these are impossible without supporters like you. Here at 350.org, we rely on people taking action. That includes people across the world chipping in what they can, primarily from emails like this one, so we can scale-up our global climate movement while staying rooted in local organising.
December is a very important time for our work, because how much we raise this month determines what we can accomplish next year. So I am asking you:
I believe it is important that we share the stories of struggle and success with one another. And I am proud to tell you that our campaign against fossil finance in Africa is only one of many movement-led programmes 350 is spearheading around the globe.
My colleagues in Europe are preparing some pretty iconic campaigns for the upcoming year, mobilising to stop the money pipeline between fossil fuel companies and the financial institutions who bankroll them.
We’re also planning a much closer collaboration between our Africa and Europe teams next year. We want to work together across borders to tell the powerful stories of people mobilising against some of the most destructive oil and gas extraction projects in Africa, led by European fossil fuel companies such as Shell and Total, and financed by European public money flowing into these corporations.
Across the globe, 350.org teams are wrapping up the planning of our big campaign moments for 2021. The funds we are able to raise before the year’s end will determine how ambitious we can be next year.
I also know this year has been very difficult, and you may not be able to make a donation today. But if you can afford it, your support today will mean a lot to someone who wants to, but may not be able to contribute right now.
Thank you again for taking a moment to read this email. I look forward to connecting more next year and continuing to share about the amazing work we're all doing. :)
