A brief update on Kenneth Ferguson

Dear supporter,

The Christian Institute has been helping Kenneth Ferguson who is bringing a legal action for unfair dismissal and religious discrimination against The Robertson Trust.

Kenneth, the Trust’s highly successful CEO, was dismissed after Chairwoman Shonaig Macpherson heard that his church was renting Trust premises for its Sunday services.

His employment tribunal took place this week. It heard evidence that Kenneth was sacked without proper procedures being followed because Macpherson was angered that his church, Stirling Free Church, ‘doesn’t believe in same-sex marriage’. One of Kenneth’s colleagues said that she was “appalled at the idea of the Free Church using a Trust space”. Another warned him that she was “on the warpath”.

We expected his employment tribunal case to conclude this week, but it has been extended and is likely to resume again in the new year.

You can read more about the case here:

Please pray:

  • For peace for Kenneth and his family in the coming weeks;
  • With thanksgiving for the excellent lawyers representing him: Barrister Thomas Cordrey and Solicitor Tom Ellis;
  • That the case will continue to be reported fairly in the press;
  • For a just outcome.

Yours in Christ,
Ciarán Kelly
