Bernie Sanders and Medicare for All Canvass
|
Join Houston DSA for our first joint DSA for Bernie and Medicare for All canvass. We'll talk health justice, democratic socialism, and Bernie's plan with neighbors as we work to build our movement and invite people in. So mark your calendars: next Sunday, September 29th, at 10:00 AM. The location is TBD so keep an eye out on the calendar and for a future email.
Haven't canvassed before? Don't worry! We'll have a brief training before heading out and we always pair newcomers with experienced canvassers. We take care of each other and always work in teams.
If you're a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar, please bring your registration materials! We'd love to register voters at as many doors as possible. If you'd like to become a VDVR for next time, find a training here.

Reading Group: People's Republic of Walmart
|
For the left and the right, major multinational companies are held up as the ultimate expressions of free-market capitalism. Their remarkable success appears to vindicate the old idea that modern society is too complex to be subjected to a plan. And yet, as Leigh Phillips and Michal Rozworski argue in People's Republic of Walmart, much of the economy of the West is centrally planned at present. Not only is planning on vast scales possible, we already have it and it works. The real question is whether planning can be democratic. Can it be transformed to work for us?
Please join the Houston DSA Reading Group this Monday September 23, 2019, 7-9pm at Bohemeo's Cafe to talk about economic planning and a future world that could empower all of us. We are planning on covering the first three chapters at this meeting.

The Education Working Group met Tuesday to discuss the current broader campaigns for a just education system in Houston. Next meeting both co-chair positions are up, so if you would like to lead this working group, make sure to come! There will also be a discussion next time of ways to work on Houston DSA's Child Watch program, Socialist Sprouts, so come to help us build that program! It's a vital and necessary part of helping allow working parents to join the movement.
The Medicare for All Working Group discussed the overlap between their campaigns for single payer healthcare and the Bernie Sanders campaign. The canvass mentioned up top was them! Be sure to come out and fight for a better world, a world of Health Justice!

Thank you all for reading! I hope everyone stayed safe during the rain this week! Like the US postal service, neither rain nor heat nor reactionary assholes will stop us from winning socialism!
