John,
If my grandmother didn’t fight for a doctor to see my mother in the racist and segregated El Paso, Texas in 1946 — my mother might have died in childbirth and I may have never been born
Growing up as the daughter of a veteran and a mother that broke through barriers and shattered glass ceilings, it’s their fierceness — and my grandmother’s, too — that makes me who I am today.
My grandmother, parents, and even Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, showed me firsthand what it means to make a way out of no way every single day. It’s because of their sacrifices and willingness to reach back and bring me along that I know what courage and fighting for others look like.
It’s why my job as a Congresswoman isn’t just a “job” — but a duty of mine to reach back into my community to uplift others — because just like me — everyone deserves a fighting chance.
I took an oath to fight for working families, our most vulnerable communities, and everyday folks like you and me. It’s my job, but also my personal mission to deliver progress on the issues that matter. But it would be impossible to represent you in Congress, effectively, without hearing directly from you.
So, to help me be the best representative I can be for you, will you tell me what issues matter to you the most? Your input will shape my 2021 agenda and help me continue to fight for the resources, policies, and progress you need and deserve. [ [link removed]]
