I shouldn't have to say it, but apparently I do: Members of Congress are there to serve the people, not their personal financial interests. Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler must have missed the memo — since they've been profiting off the pandemic while families are struggling to pay rent.
Let me be clear: Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue should not be in the United States Senate.
Next month, Georgians have a chance to send them packing and elect Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff — two candidates who embody the kind of compassionate, empathetic leadership we need during this time of crisis.
And here's what gets my heart pumping. The path to victory in Georgia is clearer than ever. Stacey Abrams and grassroots organizations like Fair Fight, the New Georgia Project and Black Voters Matter have spent years bringing more Georgians into the fight. And now, a Democratic presidential ticket has won the state for the first time in 28 years.
Early voting has started. Winning this runoff depends on turning out as many people to the polls as possible between now and January 5. And running the strongest campaigns possible depends on our strongest grassroots supporters like you.
Republicans know that victory is within our reach. Mitch McConnell is desperate to hold on to power, Donald Trump sees Georgia as a stage for his clown show and together they're lining up the GOP to flood Georgia with $100 million to defeat Reverend Warnock and Jon.
But we are not without hope: we have the power of the people on our side. And they know who and what we're fighting for: an America where everyone can thrive and no matter who you are, who you love, the color of your skin or how you worship — you are safe and your opportunities look just like everyone else's.
I believe in that America, and that is why I'm going to be doing everything within my power to make Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff the next senators from the great state of Georgia.
So I hope you're ready to fight uphill with me — because if we stand together, fight together and persist, there's nothing we can't overcome.
