John,
In this week’s update, (1) Historic win in effort to save Plum Island, (2) First doses of the coronavirus vaccine given out across the country, and (3) Cuomo shuts back down indoor dining in NYC. Historic Win to Protect Plum Island A historic win in the effort to save Plum Island! Over the last two weeks, while Congressional funding was being negotiated, I worked closely with Senator Ron Johnson, and Department of Homeland Security and White House leaders to secure language that will reverse the 2008 federal law that required Plum Island to be sold to the highest bidder.
This is an effort I have been working on since the day I entered Congress. 6 of my proposals to help protect the island have been passed by the House since 2015, including 1 that became law last year to suspend the sale for Fiscal Year 2020. Last year, I also secured $1.5 million to help restore Plum Island Lighthouse.
Now, after six years of working on this issue, the federal law to sell the island to the highest bidder will be reversed!
I would like to thank all of the amazing Plum Island advocates throughout NY-1 and the surrounding region, the Southold Town Board, and so many others for their tireless efforts over the years to fight for this local treasure. Their effort has been amazing. The better use of Plum Island would be for conservation, public access, and a continued use of the research infrastructure. I'd also like to thank Senator Schumer, because despite our differences politically, this was a cause where working together to get this done, especially the past couple of weeks, was the only acceptable path forward for both of us.

First Doses of the Coronavirus Vaccine Given Out Across the Country The first doses of the coronavirus vaccine were given out this week across the country. The rapid research, development, testing, production, approval and deployment wouldn't have been possible if not for many inside of the federal government and within the private sector, including the Trump Administration and Operation Warp Speed.

It's going to be a death blow to many of our great restaurants and their hard working employees. This decision lacks common sense. Before he gets any more bad ideas, this definitely should not be repeated here on Long Island!
