In this past election cycle, National Republicans spent more than $3.5 million attacking me at every turn. They ran attack ads criticizing my work to expand access to health care, for protecting our environment, and for holding Donald Trump accountable. They designated my Republican opponent in their top-tier of priority Congressional races and used their national platform to boost his campaign.

Despite their best efforts, we won because this campaign went to every corner of the district, grew our online fundraising and digital organizing efforts, and turned out a record number of voters.

But to be candid with you: Our campaign war chest isn’t made up of Right-Wing Super PACs. We don’t have GOP mega-donors to phone in when the going gets tough.

Our victory was made possible by playing the long game. We built up this movement by folks chipping in $5 or $10 when they could over the course of my first term.

That’s why our monthly fundraising goals are so critical. In this people-powered campaign, every dollar mattered when it came to combating millions in attacks from National Republicans. We have to be prepared to go up against an even tougher fight next time.
