We're 18 days from Georgia's Senate run-off election. Here's the news that you'll want to know:
Sen-elect. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) "said he is not ruling out" a challenge to the Electoral College vote in Congress on January 6. "Tuberville, while stumping in Georgia for the Senate runoff elections which will determine control of the chamber, said in a video that resurfaced this week that senators should also object on January 6 when Congress ratifies the election results. The video that resurfaced showed Tuberville saying, 'You'll see what's coming. You've been reading about it in the House. We're going to have to do it in the Senate.'" (CNN) • Sen-elect. Tommy Tuberville (AL) "said he is not ruling out" a challenge to the Electoral College vote in Congress on January 6.
• Rep. Mo Brooks has already said he would challenge the Electoral College vote.
• If both Sen. Tuberville and Rep. Brooks object, the Associated Press explains what would happen next: "If they do, the House and Senate would spend two hours debating separately and hold a vote that would require majority support in both chambers to pass. [...] Even if they do, such a proposal to overturn Biden’s election win by rejecting his electors is doomed in the House, which has a Democratic majority. Several Republican senators have also signaled they wouldn’t go along with an effort to overturn the election results."
• Bottom line, as Roll Call predicts: "With Democrats in control of the House and McConnell and other Senate Republicans recognizing Biden’s victory, any attempt to overturn the election for Trump during the joint session will surely be voted down."
Donald Trump Jr. on the campaign trail in Georgia this weekend with Sen. Perdue. "President Trump's eldest son will hold a 'Defend the Majority' rally with Perdue on Friday in Irwin County, in addition to holding events with the incumbent senator in Bulloch and Catoosa Counties on Saturday." • The Georgia Senate run-off race is just weeks away, and polls show the Republican and Democratic candidates are very close. Both parties regard it as a must-win election: it will determine which party has the majority in the U.S. Senate next year.
