Friend of Israel,

This week Israel achieved a major advancement for its missile defense systems.

Every year we lobby Congress for critical missile defense funding, and last week Congress
[link removed]
authorized $500 million for joint U.S.-Israel missile defense cooperation.

The funding we lobby for has helped Israel implement systems to defend against short-range rockets (Iron Dome), mid-range missiles (David’s Sling), and long-range missiles (Arrow).

For the first time, Israel
[link removed]
successfully completed a test of the interoperability of all three systems whereby the systems can detect an incoming threat and determine which system should intercept the target.

"This is one of the most advanced air-defense mechanisms in the world, and it protects the state from threats near and far," said Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

As the missile threat facing Israel continues to grow more dangerous, these lifesaving systems protect Israeli citizens and help reduce the chances for broader conflict.

This test is a remarkable demonstration of how your commitment to AIPAC, and our work together with Congress year-over-year helps keep Israel safe.

I encourage you to watch and share the video below outlining these and other important pro-Israel provisions passed by Congress last week.

Below is more important news from this week. I wish you a happy holiday season and a healthy New Year.

On Dec. 12, Iran executed Ruhollah Zam—a courageous journalist the regime lured from France, kidnapped in Iraq, and spirited to Tehran.

The execution is the latest in a long history of Iranian dissident killings.

The United States and all civilized nations must continue to condemn Iran's human rights abuses and stand with the Iranian people opposed to the brutal theocratic regime.

Satellite Images Show Construction at Iranian Nuclear Facility

New satellite imagery shows that Iran is building a new facility at Fordo—an underground nuclear facility. Fordo was initially revealed in 2009 as a facility Iran built covertly and illegally. Under the JCPOA, Iran was required to repurpose the site from an enrichment facility to a technology and research center.

Iran's actions exploit fatal flaws of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Among them, it failed to provide the International Atomic Energy Agency with anytime, anywhere inspection access to suspected nuclear sites.

America must use the leverage achieved through sanctions to fix the flaws of the JCPOA and reach a broad new deal with Iran.

The Department also

designated four entities for facilitating the export of Iranian petrochemical products on Wednesday. Iranian petrochemical sales are an important revenue source for the Iranian regime, which prioritizes regional aggression and advancing its nuclear program over the well-being of its own people.

Further, the United States

designated a Bahrain-based group as a terrorist organization this week for plotting attacks against U.S. personnel in the Middle East and receiving financial and logistical support from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Recent days have seen reports of at least two serious Iranian cyberattacks against Israeli companies. Both incidents have been attributed to Pay2Key, an Iranian hacking group known for exclusively targeting Israel and demanding ransom in exchange for stolen data.

The Iranian hackers managed to break into more than 80 targets in the Israeli market.

The Iranian cyber threat poses a danger to Americans and our allies alike. Congress and the administration must make clear that the United States will not accept continued attacks—cyber or otherwise—against Americans or our allies.
