Dignity and Power Now's Health and Wellness team created the Re-Entry & Anti-Recidivism Guide ([link removed]) to assist formerly incarcerated community members with employment, mental health, health care, educational and housing programs.

DPN In the NEWS: Op-Ed: With COVID-19 raging, depopulate Los Angeles County Jails

Eric Balaban, senior staff attorney with the ACLU's National Prison Project, and Theresa Zhen, an attorney with the Pasadena firm Hadsell, Stormer Renick & Dai, penned an op-ed discussing the critical litigation community organizations are involved in to depopulate the jails and fight for the release of our loved ones.

Balaban writes "We represent the community organizations Dignity and Power Now and Youth Justice Coalition, along with Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, in a class-action lawsuit challenging the Los Angeles County jails’ inadequate COVID-19 response. Despite the suit, the county has continued to warehouse incarcerated persons with little regard for public health and safety."

As Justice LA, Dignity and Power Now, and Los Angeles abolitionist organizations have been advocating for years, and have underscored during the COVID-19 pandemic, the County needs to depopulate the jails. Lex Steppling from Dignity and Power Now now reminds us, "Jails are and always will be a public health disaster." Read the full article for more analysis.
