Dear John,
2021 will be about turning electoral victories into policy actions.
This past November, you were part of the historic turnout of Muslim voters that helped elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. With your efforts, not only did we elect the first woman, Black, and South Asian vice president, but we also protected our democracy by voting based on our values and saying “no” to four more years of bigotry, hatred, and divisiveness.
Our contribution to this turnout: The Million Muslim Votes campaign promised a historic turnout. And we delivered! Our preliminary analysis of 12 crucial states indicates that over 1,000,000 Muslim Americans voted. Emgage Action and our valued partners across the country mobilized Muslim voters and made over 2 million calls and sent over 3.6 million text messages. A few key highlights of our work include:
- Pennsylvania: Our contribution to a turnout of over 12,000 Muslim early and absentee votes in Philadelphia County was instrumental in securing a victory in PA.
- Michigan: Our contribution to a turnout of over 27,000 Muslim early and absentee votes in Wayne County played an important role in shaping the results in MI.
Why change matters: Donald Trump’s first executive order was banning Muslims, followed by the dismantling of our immigration and asylum systems, a heartless child separation policy, an epic failure in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout, the purposeful undermining of our elections, and inspiring a rise in bigotry and hatred.
However, we CAN repair the damage done to our nation and democracy. We are hopeful that president-elect Joe Biden will rebuild our country and restore our morale. As a candidate, Joe Biden pledged to “repeal the Muslim Ban on day one” and to address other damages inflicted by the Trump Administration. Emgage Action will be there on day one of the new administration, turning our organizing into real change.
We will be tracking and providing updates on key issues that are important to our communities:
In addition, our foreign policy team will be engaged with other agencies as we advocate for the rights and dignity of people in Muslim majority countries, as well as Muslim minorities.
We are here to ensure that campaign promises made by elected officials turn into real action!
Warmest Regards,
Wa'el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage
