“First of all, it doesn’t get better but what happens is this: You get stronger.”
When Gabby Rivera first recorded her it gets better video ten years ago, those words immediately resonated with LGBTQ+ people around the world. They were tough but they were true.
The video was translated into an essay and included in The New York Times bestselling “It Gets Better” book. So when we started filming for our video reflection series “10 Years Better,” reconnecting with Gabby felt like a no brainer.
Here is Gabby Rivera 10 years later [[link removed]] — the first Latina to write for Marvel Comics. The author of the novel “Juliet Takes a Breath.” An advocate for LGBTQ+ youth and every bit as outspoken as she was when she first uttered those powerful words.
Words matter. Stories matter. And without question, Gabby’s words will inspire you!
