The Trump administration is in the process of finalizing a cruel change to the appeals process for Social Security’s disability benefits. Their goal: Take benefits away from hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities, and undermine faith in our Social Security system.
They want to make Social Security benefits so hard to get that people give up trying, and begin to resent the Social Security contributions we all make with every paycheck.

Here are the facts: To get Social Security disability insurance, people must pass one of the most stringent screenings in the world.
From time to time, people who are receiving benefits are reviewed to make sure that they are still eligible for these benefits. Yet this administration has proposed, in the midst of this pandemic, to make those reviews as frequent as every 6 months―a policy that was enacted then reversed under Ronald Reagan due to the massive suffering and death it created.1
The people who depend on our Social Security system are also the people most threatened by COVID―seniors and people with disabilities. We should all be sheltering and social distancing during this pandemic, but it is most critical for people on Social Security. We should be suspending these reviews entirely during the pandemic―yet this administration is trying to increase them!
This proposal won’t die with Donald Trump’s presidency. Republicans have proven that they will back any policy that undermines Social Security, no matter how cruel. Chip in $7 to fight back and win!
