Friend,
This year, our health care system has been put to the test like never before. COVID-19 has exacerbated longstanding disparities that disproportionately impact the health of Black and Latinx communities. As my team and I worked to protect your health and health care, we never lost sight of these inequities and developed recommendations to address them. We called for an improved telehealth system, greater diversity in the health care workforce, and prioritizing investments in social determinants of health.
Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Donald Trump and his cronies. This year, in the middle of a pandemic, they continued their crusade to rip health care away from those who need it most. But my team, with colleagues across the country, have stood strong in our defense of the Affordable Care Act to protect health care access for 422,000 Massachusetts residents and millions nationwide.

The attacks didn’t only come from the Trump Administration. Republican officials across the country attempted to capitalize on the newly-conservative Supreme Court to undermine abortion access. But we stopped them. In June, we secured a major victory when the Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law that would have drastically restricted abortion access in the state and paved the way for similar restrictions across the country that would disproportionately impact communities of color. We also are not satisfied with blocking new restrictions on reproductive health care – we are fighting to pass the ROE Act to ensure everyone has access to safe, legal abortion here in Massachusetts.
Let me be clear – our broken health care system is not going to be magically fixed overnight as soon as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are sworn into office. These inequalities existed long before the Trump Administration and they will continue if we don’t commit to meaningful change.
That’s why I’m writing to ask that you make a contribution to help fuel our work to build racial justice and equity in health. Will you chip in today?
