On November 16, 2020, the Quebec corporation of paramedic (CPQ) presented a request for professional backing with the l’Office des professions du Québec by asking them to create a professional order for paramedics in this province. This request brings to light the risks of prejudice towards the population of Quebec within the current framework set forth by the Ministry of health and social services (MSSS).

A paramedic in the Brant County has tested positive for COVID-19. The county issued a statement Tuesday afternoon and said the member is currently in isolation and recovering. Other paramedics were close contacts but all of them tested negative.

Superior North EMS draft strategic plan recommends addition of two 12-hour ambulance shifts in Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay City Council will get a look at the future of Superior North EMS (SNEMS) on Monday, when a draft 10-year strategic report is presented. The report includes a number of recommendations designed to help the agency weather what Todd MacDonald, president of Performance Concepts Consulting — the company hired by the city to prepare the report — will be a series of challenges in the coming years, largely spurred on by an aging population.

A Peel Region paramedic has been charged with sexual assault involving a minor in Erin, Ont. OPP say 41-year-old Sean Large has been charged with sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, invitation to sexual touching on a person under 16 years of age, and sexual interference.

RAMA first nation paramedics putting rapid COVID test through the paces

Many paramedics in Rama First Nation are getting swabbed on the daily, as part of a pilot program to test out a rapid COVID-19 test. Carrie Hassberger, Chief of Paramedic Services in Rama First Nation, says many of her paramedics are participating in a Ministry of Health-run pilot project to test out the effectiveness of the Panbio COVID-19 rapid test.

For the fourth time in about two months, Ottawa paramedics have assisted in the delivery of a new baby outside of a hospital. In this latest case, a local mom called 9-1-1 at around 11:23 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 after going into labour.

The Rapid Response Team is committed to deployment in Fort St James until Wednesday after a second team was deployed today (Monday). Two incoming Critical Care Paramedics, part of Team Two of the rapid response team, proceeded with handover and introductions to the area yesterday (Sunday).

Paramedics' toy drive events cancelled as region enters red zone

Today, the Province of Ontario announced it is moving our region into the RED-CONTROL designation (RED-CONTROL designation will take effect on Monday, Dec. 14). Despite 2020 Toy Drive progress and optimism to finish this year strong, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services, effective SATURDAY, DEC. 12, will be cancelling all further Toy Drive events for 2020 in order to not impact gatherings and pose additional risks due to Covid.

New COVID-19 rapid testing being piloted in Muskoka

A new pilot project for rapid testing provides COVID-19 results in roughly 15 minutes, and Muskoka Paramedics started the program Monday. Asymptomatic paramedics can voluntarily receive rapid testing during the eight-week Panbio Antigen Testing project that the premier calls a “game-changer” in the fight against COVID-19.
