Dear Friend, As the clock ticks down on the year and the holidays quickly approach, I am filled with gratitude toward you as a vital partner to the National Center on Sexual Exploitation’s mission to end sexual abuse and exploitation. Thank you for your time, effort, donations, and prayers. You make our work here at NCOSE possible! With only a few weeks left of the whirlwind that has been 2020, I’d like to take the time to look back at some of the amazing things we were able to accomplish this year despite the onset of a global pandemic that we feared would shut down our work! How grateful I am to have been wrong. In addition to crippling the pornography industry (as you've been following these past 10 days), here are other great 2020 highlights that we were able to accomplish together! These tech giants are used daily by most youth around the world and were severely lacking in their safety controls, leaving so many of our vulnerable children prey to predators and pornography-exposure abuse. After hundreds of thousands of messages from our army and many meetings, these four giants each made significant safety improvements giving parents much more power to protect their children online. Demand Forum is a website that has been used by law enforcement agencies, task forces, and collaborating institutions from all 50 states and 175+ countries to design, improve, and sustain programs to combat sex buying behavior (demand), as well as a resource for state and federal legislatures to help craft human trafficking and prostitution statutes. After direct service providers began to reach out to NCOSE over a concerning pandemic trend where traffickers and pimps forced their victims to participate in the gig economy, we reached out to several delivery companies in order to provide exit services to these individuals. Instacart and DoorDash collaborated with NCOSE to provide resources and hotlines for victims of sexual abuse and exploitation on their apps, placing a needed priority on an overlooked population affected by the pandemic. In the wake of COVID-19, we held our annual Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation Global Summit virtually this year spurring massive momentum for our movement and more connection and unity than ever achieved in the past. In addition to the CESE Summit, ICOSE organized the first Pan-African conference on the public health harms of pornography. Our movement needs evidence-based solutions that move it from addressing immediate needs and basic research, to holistic solutions that prevent victimization before it begins. NCOSE formed a team of experts to harness the power of objective data and methods to not only inform, but to help impacted individuals, communities, and policymakers identify and advance the best evidence-based solutions to prevent and eradicate the web of sexual abuse and exploitation. - Filing Multiple Lawsuits Against the Kingpins of Sexual Exploitation
To bring the pro-exploitation industry to its knees, the NCOSE Law Center is matching survivors of sexual abuse with plaintiffs’ lawyers for the purpose of filing litigation against the sexual exploitation industry, specifically focused on bringing justice for those deeply hurt by pornography, sex trafficking, and child sexual abuse. In 2020, our attorneys filed four lawsuits and helped facilitate dozens more. With new team members in England and Germany working to bolster the global abolitionist movement, we have been active at the governing bodies of the world and have coordinated worldwide advocacy campaigns leading to massive changes with social media giants and with all major credit card companies. As you can see, NCOSE has been hard at work to combat the issues of sexual exploitation in its many forms this year. This is only a sampling of the many victories and ongoing projects we experienced in 2020!
